When you bring up organic food, many people still think of vegetarians munching bean sprouts and celery all day. The truth is, sustainable farming practices and organic food production are becoming increasingly popular as more people around the world look for ways to reduce humanity's impact on the planet. In fact, there are several organizations today that are dedicated to teaching others about the benefits
of the local organic food movement. Here are a few of our favorites:Kitchen Gardeners International
Kitchen Gardeners International is a fantastic resource for anyone interested in growing, or learning to grow, some of their own food. With more than 200,000 members across more than 100 countries, KGI is quickly becoming a trusted resource for all sorts of information on organic food. In today's hectic world, most of us don't have the time, space or know-how to grow everything our families need for ourselves. But you can still take advantage of KGI's extensive collection of recipes to find all sorts of new ways to prepare the organic meat and produce available at our local market.
Slow Food
Slow Food was founded in 1989 to counter the fast-food culture and encourage people to take time to think about what they're eating and where it comes from. This organization is dedicated to preserving local food traditions and ending hunger by working to reconnect people with the food that's on their plates. If you're in doubt about the importance of supporting fair, sustainable organic food production, check out the Slow Food Movement!
Mother Earth News
The Mother Earth News website is packed with information on sustainable living, green energy, organic food, modern homesteading and more. Their Real Food section is one of the best resources we've found yet to help you make the most of the food you eat. Pretty much everything you ever wanted to know about preparing, cooking and preserving fresh food naturally can be found here. Oh, and the recipes are fantastic!
At 4th Generation Organic Market, we believe that caring for the Earth is a natural part of caring for ourselves. Organic food is NOT just for vegetarians or “health
nuts” anymore. It's about great food, sustainability, protecting our precious natural resources and strengthening our local communities in the process. Who doesn't care about that? |
